Algernon Campbell, Teacher - Creative Movement and Dance
Mr. Algernon is originally from Savannah, GA. He is a graduate of Morehouse College with a B.A in Theatre and Drama as well as a graduate of the Certificate of Dance Program from the Ailey School. He has danced with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre for 4 seasons and for other renowned choreographers. He has danced nationally and internationally in such countries as Japan, Austria, and Zimbabwe. He has lived in many cities and now resides in Baltimore County. He is a professional dancer with Full Circle Dance Company and teacher at the Morton Street Dance Center.
Andrew Harris, Teacher - Cooking and Nutrition
Originally from Gloucester City, NJ, Mr. Drew attended Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD and explored every academic field. After graduating with a Major in English and a Minor in Rhetoric and Communications with a concentration in Psychology, Andrew went to work for Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve in Fairfield, PA where he taught Environmental Science. In Gloucester City, NJ he worked in a classroom with children with Behavioral Deficiencies and was a second grade teacher for "NJ After 3", an after-school program. In September of 2006 Andrew moved to Baltimore, MD, were he lives today. He loves traveling, reading, writing, playing guitar, harmonica and piano, singing, and exercising.
Heather Rebstad, Program Director
Heather graduated from Springfield College, MA with a degree in Political Science and a concentration in International Relations. She traveled to Haiti several times on humanitarian mission trips during and after college. She also worked at Camp Puh'tok in Monkton, Maryland as a counselor and Program Director for eight years and currently serves on their Board of Directors. After college, Heather went to work as a Program Director for the South George Street Community Partnership in York, PA. In 1999, she came to work for Living Classrooms Foundation as the Co-Director of the Renaissance Summer Program and Frederick Douglass After School Program. She is currently serving her 7th year as Program Director of the BUGS After School Program. Heather lives in Northern Baltimore County and enjoys reading, music and singing, travel, and spending time outdoors with her husband George and her two children - who are 3 and 18 months old - exploring the wonders of nature!
Jane Rosen, Program Manager
Originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Jane moved to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1999. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001, she has been working with young people in Baltimore City. Jane came to the BUGS Program in 2004 as the Gardening Teacher where she learned a lot about gardening and too much about aphids (little bugs that attack plants and multiply quickly). She then taught the creative arts component and was endlessly inspired by the creativity of the BUGS students. In her fouth year at BUGS, she is now the Program Manager and is hoping to use this position to make this year better than ever. Jane also loves drawing, printmaking, photography, cooking, shopping at local farmers markets, and watching Orioles baseball.
Kathleen McGrath, Teacher - Gardening and the Environment
Kathleen (Kat) McGrath hails from the New England area but is quickly becoming a fan of the mid Atlantic states. Kat graduated from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, magna cum laude, with a bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education and a minor in the arts. She studied at University Limerick, in County Limerick Ireland, focusing her studies on Post-colonialism and working diligently on her family's organic dairy farm in Dromcollogher, County Limerick. Kat comes to the BUGS program with a love of organic farming and 4 years of public school teaching in Boston area schools including 2 years at an Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound charter school. Like a true New Englander Kat describes her experiences thus far at the BUGS Program to be "wicked cool."
Rachel Miller, Teacher - Creative Arts
Ms. Rachel recently graduated from The University of The Arts in Philadelphia, where she received her B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing. When she's not creating beautiful works of art with our BUGS students, she enjoys working on her own paintings in her studio in Hamden. Ms. Rachel loves all forms of art, including music, cooking, and dance, as they are all venues for creativity. She also enjoys travelling, especially to tropical islands with palm trees and blue waters for snorkelling. When asked about her favorite color, Ms. Rachel promptly responded, "All Colors", which says it all!
